Instructor Training

Are you considering a new career as a driving instructor? Find out more here about the training and get a realistic idea of what it takes to become a driving instructor.

 

Part 1: your first test - basically a harder theory and hazard perception test.

Part 2: your second test - a longer, higher-standard version of the practical driving test you’ve already passed.

Part 3: your final test - a test to assess your abilities to instruct/coach a learner driver.

 

Pass all of these and you’re a qualified driving instructor!

 

How do I become a driving instructor?

Here are the links you’ll need to start the process: 

  • Apply to become an ADI

  • Get a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to apply to become a driving instructor

  • Revise for, book and pass your part 1 test

  • Do in car lessons with your trainer, book and pass your part 2 test

  • 40 hours of part 3 training

  • Apply for a trainee licence (start working as a driving instructor - PDI)

  • 20 hours additional part 3 training

  • Book and pass your part 3 test

  • Apply for your ADI badge

Why train with Go Drive?

We have our own experienced in-house trainer who will guide you through the whole process. This can be done at your own pace, whether training alongside a full-time job or that you have some spare time you’d like to dedicate to your training.

 

How long will it take?

Realistically, 6-12 months depending on how much time you have to do your training.
